I heard about this in a delightful political discussion in a tiny antique store here in Hallowell, Maine. I don't know how this really came up, but the owner of the store mentioned it and peaked my interest. Of course they were very liberal, but they were elderly and equipped with the art of true conversation. They were so sweet and respectable! Anyway the story:

LONDON (Reuters) - An armada of small, faded yellow toy ducks is expected to make landfall in Britain within weeks, following an epic 11-year voyage from the Pacific Ocean. They are the survivors of a consignment of 29,000 bath toys washed overboard from a container ship in 1992 that have since floated across the ocean, around the United States, through the Arctic and past Greenland. Most of the remnants of the fading flotilla are now heading down the eastern seaboard of the United States, although a breakaway group has been spotted heading for Britain, the company that made the ducks said Friday. "We hope people will have fun looking for them and look forward to tracking them when they finally come ashore," said Clive Wooster of The First Years Co. "These amazing little ducks are becoming much sought after. In parts of the world they have actually become cult collectors' items," he added. The U.S.-based company is offering a reward of $100 in savings bonds to anyone who finds a duck in New England -- with the monetary equivalent in Canada and Iceland -- but only a signed certificate to the finders of the first 250 in Britain. |

Had y'all heard about this? You know the Pizza Hut guy here in Maine laughed at me when I said "y'all." I guess I don't even notice it anymore~ LOL Okay anyway I really want to post more because I am so bored. Well my mama always says that boredom is the product of a weak mind--so I am not bored persay... I am just not overly entertained at the moment.
I have not written a lot of politics as of late... I am slacking because of summer. What topic to discuss? Hmmm... abortion? War on terror? Sure! Why not! I have all night!
Earlier today I was reading a post by a fellow journalist and she was discussing abortion and so I have it on the brain. If your tired of hearing about it, move on brother! As a former fetus, I oppose abortion whole-heartedly. My reasons:
That is it! Boy that was SO much fun! I eat this stuff up! Are y'all tired of me yet? HEHE

That was funny
First of all the issue isn't CHOICE, the issue is human life. As I have already said the percentage of women who use abortion because they became pregnant as a result of rape is less than 1%. “About 1 or 2 for each 1000. Using the 170,000 figure, this translates into an overall total of 170 to 340 assault rape pregnancies a year in the entire United States.” Compare 170-340 to 1.5 million abortion. And divide 170-340 by half and that is about how many women abort the baby because half of those women would never go through with an abortion. It is inconceivable that our society murders the baby because the father is a rapist. So roughly between 85 and 170 a year have an abortion because they were raped.* “Less than half [of women abort the baby]. The balance carry the baby to term. In one study of 37 rape pregnancies, 28 carried to term. S. Makhorn, in Psychological Aspects of Abortion, Mall & Watts, Univ. Pub. 1979, Pg. 58” I don’t even think that it is acceptable for women who have been raped to have an abortion. Because the fetus is human life, it isn’t just a big blob of cells. And just because we don’t like who the baby’s parents were, doesn’t mean that the baby should suffer.
Not to mention the further emotional pain you’re willing to inflict on an already traumatized woman. “In recent years it has become clear that these women can and do suffer from Post-Abortion Syndrome. When PAS does develop, a woman, so affected, can carry the same burdens of guilt, denial and depression that a woman who aborted a "love" baby often does. Why is this? At least two dynamics seem obvious. Remember that the rape was done to her. She was not responsible. She was the innocent victim and should bear no guilt. But, by contrast, the abortion will be done by her. She agreed to it. She was a volitional participant in a second act of violence: the killing of her own unborn child. And it is her own unborn child. This is the other inescapable fact of biology that probably is a factor in the development of PAS. The newly-conceived baby is certainly the "rapist’s child," but he or she is also her child; for half of the new baby’s genetic material came from her. She may try, but, inside of her, she cannot deny this biologic reality, however unwillingly it happened and however upsetting it may be. And so, to kill this little one by abortion is to participate in a violent, lethal act that destroys a baby who is partly her own flesh and blood. In loving charity, we should never remind her of this.
Abortion has unfortunately been apart of our society for thirty years. And yet we still have starving babies. Your argument is specious. “You seem to love the fetus but hate the baby when you argue for anti-abortion but ignore these issues.” To me, the fetus and the baby are the same. And how can you say that I hate the “fetus” your willing to stick a pair of scissors into it’s scull for a painful death. I am willing to give it a chance. They are A LOT of families with open arms that have been waiting for the perfect baby. You act like these women are being forced to have an abortion. I have no compassion for these women who have abortions. If they feel so guilty about it, then obviously they know it is wrong. Now I would be the first one there to comfort a rape victim, and I would support that person her full term of pregnancy. But as I said before the rape pregnancies are less than 1% of abortions. The other 99.5% are from women who use abortion as birth control. You talk about choice; she had her choice when she had sex. Simple way of avoiding pregnancy, never fails: keep your legs together. And if your contraceptive fails, then you still have an obligation to the person inside you, don’t make our children pay for our mistakes. I want you to concentrate on this fact: 14 days after conception there is a heartbeat. What non-living thing has a heartbeat? If I am wrong, I am asking you to sacrifice 9 months and if you’re wrong you’re taking away a whole life.
